Hearing Loss 101
Hearing loss can happen to anybody and it has many different causes. We have gathered some useful information to help you learn more about hearing loss and navigate its challenges.
What is Hearing Loss?
Hearing loss is a common problem effecting millions
Millions of people around the world have hearing loss. It often comes on gradually or is caused by repeated exposure to loud noises. At Beltone, our goal is helping the world to hear better, and that includes you and your loved ones.
Hearing loss affects the ability of the auditory system and the brain to code and decipher auditory information. As the hearing loss progresses other symptoms may include social isolation and inability to function in common social settings. If you or your loved ones feel you have significant hearing problems it is advisable to see an audiologist or your physician for evaluation.
Warning Signs of Hearing Loss
If you experience these warning signs repeatedly or in combination, they may indicate a hearing loss. Most hearing loss is gradual and progressively gets worse over time. Often, we don’t notice the symptoms of hearing loss until they become more extreme. Look for these subtle signs and symptoms of hearing loss.

Tinnitus
Tinnitus and ringing in the ears
Tinnitus is the name for the perception of sounds, such as ringing in your ears, buzzing or hissing, when these sounds are not present in the environment. Although the tinnitus sounds can be perceived as quite loud, objective measurements show that they are often fainter than the sound of a leaf falling to the ground.
